Location. Legoland California is a 128-acre theme park and is located in the costal town of Carlsbad, California, which is in San Diego County. By automobile Carlsbad is approximately 45 minutes north of San Diego and one hour south of Anaheim. From Interstate 5 take the Cannon Road East exit and follow the Legoland signs. You can check with your hotel/motel staff for public transportation information.
General information. Legoland California one of four Legoland parks and is the only Lego theme park in the United States. The park was built specifically for children between the ages of 2 and 12 and their parents.There are more than 50 attractions, shows and interactive rides as well as Lego themed shops and restaurants. Legoland is beautifully landscaped using flora from around the world. The present team of Lego Master Model Builders builds, design, and maintain thousands of large scale Lego models that make the park a unique vacation destination for the entire family.
Dates and hours of operation. Legoland is open 7 days a week from the last week of May thru the months of June, July and August. It is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the school year with the exception of most school holidays such as spring and fall breaks, the last week of November (Thanksgiving week), and the last two weeks of December (Christmas). The gates open at 10:00AM and the park closes anywhere from 5:00PM in the winter months to 8:00PM in June and July.
What it’ll cost at the gate. Legoland park admission may seem a little steep when you first look at it, but considering all it entitles you to it’s really pretty reasonable. General admission one-day price is $62 for adults and $52 for children age 3 to 12 and seniors over 60 years old. You get a pretty good break on the two-day price at $77 for adults and $65 for children 3 to 12 and seniors over 60. Children 2 and under are always free! If you live close enough to Legoland California to go several times a year there are Membership Programs with unlimited admission year around. A standard Membership will cost adults $119 and children and seniors $99. Membership Plus costs $139 and $115 respectively and includes free parking and discounts. You can be a Lifetime Ambassador for a mere $2,000!
What to expect inside the gate. The Beginning is where it all starts with a huge dinosaur to greet you. This is also where you’ll find The Big Store, Legoland California’s largest retail shop. There are more Lego toy building sets for sale here than any other store in the U.S. From there you’ll wind your way through over forty adventures in the other eight Lego themed areas, riding over 50 super adult and kid rides on the way and eating everything from ice cream, hotdogs, and hamburgers to barbeque and pizza. The other Lego themed areas are:
1. “Land of Adventure” featuring Lost Kingdom Adventure, Cargo Ace, Beetle Bounce, and Pharaoh’s Revenge.
2. “Pirate Shores” where you can have a Splash Battle, Soak n Sail, Captain Cranky’s Challenge, Treasure Falls, and for the little ones, Swabbies Deck.
3. “Castle Hill” includes Knight’s Tournament, The Dragon, The Hideaways, and Royal Joust.
4 .“Fun Town” with the Lego Club House, Lego Factory Tour, Fire Academy, two Volvo Driver’s Schools, Kid Power Towers, Adventurer’s Club, Flight Squadron, Sky Patrol and Sky Cruiser.
5. “Explore Village” has the Musical Fountain, go on a Safari Trek, ride down Fairy Tale Brook, take the Legoland Express, play in Playtown and at the Waterworks.
6. “Dino Island” is the place you ride the Lego roller coaster, Coastersaurus.
7. “Miniland USA” is the heart of Legoland California and features the Coast Cruise, The Lake, The Model Shop, and Block of Fame.
8. “Imagination Zone” is where your mind and body plays. Lego Mindstorms Robotics, Bionicle Evolution, Bionicle Blaster, Lego Technic Coaster, Maniac Challenge, Aquazone Wave Racers, Build and Test, and for the little Lego builders Duplo Play.
